The Ayuntamiento of Tias have announced that 13 companies have submitted tenders for the new sunbed contract for Puerto del Carmen’s beaches.
Each of the 13 had to post a bond of €19,000 to demonstrate their seriousness, and had to agree to a payment of at least €634,000 per year if successful. The town hall will choose the winner based on the annual fee offered, in combination with the design and quality of the deck chairs and umbrellas they propose to use.
The sunbeds were removed from the beaches over the Easter period after a legal dispute with the old contractor. The council says there were irregularities with their contract and an issue with payments relating to it.
It’s hoped that everything will be finalised in time for the new contractor to have beds on all the beaches before the end of June.
