The holiday resort of Playa Blanca in Lanzarote does not have any beaches that qualify for a blue flag status for 2013.
Puerto del Carmen topped the awards with four out of the five beaches in Lanzarote. The distinctive blue flag will be flying again in Matagorda, Los Pocillos, Pila de la Barilla (known as Playa Chica) & Playa Blanca (known as Playa Grande). Tías is the only municipality in the Canary Islands that have achieved this status for all of the beaches within the municipality.
Playa Las Cucharas in Costa Teguise was the fifth beach to be awarded the blue flag quality in Lanzarote.
The marina at Puerto Calero was also honoured again, for their quality and standards with another blue flag.
The Bandera Azul is an eco label granted by the Federación Europea para la Educación Ambiental (FEE) for reaching certain standards relating to water quality, safety, accessibility, information and the environment.
