Last week we learned that there is a new arrival amongst the Rancho Texas Park residents: a cute female American Bison calf.

The birth and her first wobbly steps were caught on video. It might be a bit gruesome for some at first, but worth watching all the same.

This is the second birth of American Bison in the Park in the last 3 years, after a pregnancy of 280 days. Both baby and mother are doing well and the proud daddy, the biggest animal in the Park at 1,80 meters high and weighing a tonne, stands a bit taller, we've been told.

To celebrate the occasion the Park has organised a photographic contest of the best picture of the baby. To participate, you need to post your photo of her on in their Flickr group.  The photo that becomes the favourite with the most votes among the contestants, will be declared the winner. The deadline to submit your photos ends on the 31st of December this year, the final votes will be tallied on the 31st of January 2014. So don't forget to visit the Park when you come to Lanzarote this year.

A bit more informally, they are looking for help to choose a name for the new little bison. People have already been making suggestions on their Facebook page. If a name is proposed that suits the calf's personality and her parents like it too, that's what they'll call it!

Special Offer 30th May

Also, to welcome the new arrival  there is a special offer next week on the 30th of May when the entrance price will be reduced to €8 to celebrate "El Día de Canarias" or Canarian Day .  There will be a special set of activities and performances at the park during the day, on top of the usual shows.

An opportunity not to be missed!
