The World Travel Market (WTM) which took place in London this week is an important event for the Canary Islands.
The Canary Islands won the “Best Stand For Doing Business” award this year. The WTM Jury selected the 700 m2 Canary Islands tourism stand for originality in design and functionality for facilitating business opportunities. A high resolution 100 m2, 360 degrees, mega screen took centre stage with images of the Canary Islands that could be seen from all sides of the stand.
The British market is an important one for the islands with 3.1 million Britons having already visited the Canaries during 2015, which is approximately 100,000 more than the same period for last year. María Teresa Lorenzo, the tourism minister heading up the delegation in London confirmed that bookings for next summer are already up by a massive 38%. The UK market accounts for 30% of tourists visiting the archipelago which is reported to equate to 3.900 million euros of income attributed to tourism in the islands.
