We were saddened to hear of another death at Playa de Famara over the weekend, this time it was a British resident who lost their life.
The emergency news alerts carried details of a foreign 43 year old man who died after being rescued from the sea, he was unconscious and suffering from cardiorespiratory arrest following drowning at 18:49 on Saturday 20th April.
Officially we’ve heard nothing further, what we do know is that locals are incensed that another person has died at this beautiful beach. Famara is well known for not being a beach that you swim off, bathers should stay within their depth due to the possible rip tides and observe the flags which generally are flying red warning of the danger. Reading comments in the Spanish and British social media sites , we understand that the ambulance took some 40 - 50 minutes to reach the scene. Residents believe that an ambulance should be stationed at the beach so that the right equipment and medical assistance is on hand at the scene for future incidents.
We don’t personally know the man who lost his life, we do know that he’s called Steve Potter and a resident from Nazaret, our sincerest condolences to his family.
