Lanzarote’s second Technical Inspection of Vehicles (ITV) testing centre situated in Playa Honda, is due to open any day now.
The Lanzarote Automoción (LA) ITV station is situated in Calle Canto El Jable, which is the road behind Ropers, Cash Mar & Mega Centro in the industrial estate. Once open, this ends the monopoly enjoyed by the island’s first MOT testing station, which has been in operation since 1995 and is situated by the General Hospital in Arrecife,
Owned by a group of local investors, the LA ITV centre which cost in the region of four million euros is expected to create 15-20 jobs on the island. The investors started the project back in 2005, so it’s taken 8 years to come to fruition, five of those were lost in administration waiting for changes to the regulations regarding the installation and operation of ITV stations.
The new centre can comfortably test 200 vehicles a day, there are 3 lanes available, two of which have been allocated for cars and heavy goods vehicles, and the other is for bikes and light vehicles under 3,500 kilos.
It will be interesting to see their effect if any on the prices when the centre does open, as yet they are not showing online to book appointments. The maximum prices are regulated and have been in force since 1st January 2009.
