Flight seats increase by half a million to the Canaries this winter

The forecast for flight connections to the Canary Islands from October to April amounts to 5.174.145 places, which is over half a million more seats than in the same period last year.

These figures released by Turismo for the islands imply and increase of 11.7% in flight seats available for the foreign market this coming winter season in the Canary Islands, over 542.569 more places than the previous year.

Ricardo Fernández de la Puente Armas, the Deputy Minister of Tourism for the Canary Islands described the figures as “very positive” and said that the “Canarian Government is working intensively to increase the connectivity of the Canary Islands  because they know that this is the crucial for success in the tourism sector”.

In respect of the domestic market from the peninsular, there is a total of 1.282.004 places for this winter season, which is an increase of 3.2%, 39,269 more seats than the same period in 2013.

United Kingdom and Germany remain the principal markets for the Canary Islands, with the biggest increase in the number of airline seats available. The UK has an increase of 12.8% from 1,793,217 in 2013/14 to 2,022,661 for this winter. Germany have an increase of 6.6% growing their number of seats from 1.372.913 to 1.463.156 for winter 2014/15.
