Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Commerce, Jerónimo Robayna reported the data which was recorded by the Department of Trade within the Ayuntamiento of Tías, this activity is believed to be a direct result of the new measures implemented by the PP & San Borondón government groups to support SME’s and self employed workers.

The new stores and businesses include hotels & restaurants, food, fashion & accessories, travel agency, training & education centre, optician, bazaars, insurance agency, tourist services and photography shop amongst others.

Five of these businesses have opened in the centre of Tías, whilst the others are located in Puerto del Carmen. Alongside the new stores opening, 23 existing shops have adapted to the current regulations which includes exemption from fees and taxes for their opening documentation.

Another indication of the optimism in Tías is the slight decrease of people registered as unemployed within the municipality. The figure was 1753 people in January, 1764 in February and 1748 at the end of March.

The Government group for Tías expect that the municipality of Tías will generate more employment and economic activity in the coming months which has been motivated by the Plan for Modernization and Rehabilitation of Touristic Puerto del Carmen. The plan will contribute to the opening of new stores, maintenance of service companies and generation of new jobs.
